The Competition Program is INVITE ONLY. Invites are extended to dancers who AUDITION in the summer near the end of each season.

Those who are interested in the Competition Program during the season are encouraged to enroll in our Academy Program which is open all season.

CLASS REQUIREMENTS
“Teams” at Hart Academy are the dance routines that compete in competition.
Hip-Hop Team: Hip-Hop & Conditioning
Tap Team: Tap & Conditioning
Jazz/Musical Theater Team: Technique, Conditioning, & Ballet
30 min rehearsal per week for each team dancer is selected for.
COMMITMENT INCLUDES
- Preliminary Showcase
- 3 Regional Competitions (at least 2 with company)
- 1 LOCAL National Competition
- Community Performances (such as Corn Festival, La Habra Tree Lighting, & Citrus Fair)
- Recital Participation

DRESS CODE: Booty Shorts/Leggings, Crop Top/Leotard, Appropriate Dance Shoes
Once you’ve decided to commit to auditions, please enroll through the Parent Portal: “Competition Audition Ages X-X ” for your respective age group (ages as of Jan. 1, 2027). You must be signed up prior to audition day!
Audition forms need to be filled out and brought to auditions. Please read the team technique requirements and general competition information. This is a commitment from August 2026-July 2027. All dancers on competition teams are required to take a certain number of technique classes as well as be available to perform at ALL competitions and recitals.
Performance Team and Company – BOTH are considered part of our competition team. YOU WILL SELECT ON YOUR AUDITION FORM WHICH PROGRAM YOU WANT TO BE CONSIDERED FOR.
Although we are auditioning different styles of dance, this does not guarantee that we will have a team with all listed or in the age categories listed. We create the teams based on skill level and age of the dancers. The categories are extremely competitive and we must create teams both small and large that will average the ages to meet those requirements.
- Audition fee is $50 for one style and $75 if auditioning for more than one style. This fee will be charged the day of auditions and is non refundable.
- You must enroll for auditions on the parent portal or website.
- All dancers will receive a video with some jazz choreography to learn PRIOR to auditions. In order to be fair to all, teachers will not be able to work on the choreography in privates or in classes. We will review everything during auditions.
- Dancers will be learning combos and performing the as well as doing individual skills.
We recommend that all dancers have dance experience before auditioning. Although we would love to take accept every student that auditions, it is very common that a student may need more technique classes before joining our team. If you are concerned or curious if your child is ready, please do not hesitate to talk to your child’s teacher.
